Meet Our Therapists

Annie Novotny, MAATC, LCPC, ATR, EMDR-TRAINED

Founder
There are many paths to healing, health, and well-being. I founded Roots and rays as a space to meet people wherever they are on their journey and walk for a while, along-side them. I believe whole-heartedly in the power of creative expression and the role it plays in health and healing.

I use a variety of tools in my practice, including the use of art-making as another mode of expression and creative space for problem-solving. I am EMDR-Trained and may integrate mindfulness and meditation techniques, somatic work, and Internal Family Systems into sessions in order to best support the therapeutic process. I collaborate with participants to plan creative solutions and positive coping behaviors in order to address a wide variety of experiences. These include anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationships, self-esteem and self-worth, stress, symptoms related to post-traumatic stress, vicarious trauma, being in relationship with a trauma survivor, substance use/ abuse, self-care, and addressing negative coping behaviors. I have worked extensively with survivors of sexual violence, people who have experienced domestic violence, combat Veterans, and other survivors of complex trauma.

If you are needing support at this time, I look forward to connecting with you.

As a practicing interdisciplinary artist l utilize a variety of approaches to art making in my personal and clinical practice. I have experience working with folks challenged with symptoms related to trauma/complex trauma, PTSD, depression/anxiety, as well as other forms of mental health issues.  In my graduate training, my most recent role was as an art therapy intern at Jesse Brown Veteran Affairs Medical Center with Veterans who presented with a range of symptoms.  Although I enjoy working with people from all kinds of backgrounds, I am especially passionate about working with those who identify within the LGBTQIA+ and TGNQ community.  If you are in need of support around life’s challenges at this time, I look forward to connecting, and working with you.
